Heavy rain pounded the southern regions during the Liberation Day long weekend.

The heaviest downpours have mostly subsided now.

However, light rain will continue to linger around the Yeongnam region and the southern coast until this morning (August 18).

Meanwhile, scattered showers are forecast for various parts of the Chungcheong region and areas further south this afternoon.

Looking at the precipitation levels, up to 60mm of additional rain is expected in the southern coastal areas of Yeongnam through today, while 5 to 30mm is forecast for other parts of the southern coast and the Yeongnam region.

Rainfall from the showers is expected to range between 5 and 30mm.

Although the rain will not be intensely heavy, the ground has been significantly weakened, particularly in the southern coastal areas of Yeongnam where heavy rain has already fallen, requiring special caution against landslides and soil erosion.

It will be hot during the day today.

Temperatures across the country will exceed 30°C, with Seoul and Daegu climbing up to 32°C.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, light rain is expected in the Chungcheong region and areas further south, while rain is forecast for the central region this coming Saturday.
