A series of stampede and fire accidents at Hindu events in India has left at least 14 people dead.

Local Indian police stated that a stampede occurred at around 6:30 a.m. on the 17th local time near the Ashokdham Hindu temple in the northeastern Indian state of Bihar, killing 7 people, including worshippers, and injuring over 10 others.

All of the casualties were women. At the time, thousands of devotees had gathered around the temple to worship Lord Shiva, marking "Shravan," considered a sacred month for devotees of the Hindu deity Shiva.

Around 4:30 a.m. on the same day, a fire broke out on the ground floor of a four-story hotel in Tarapith, a densely packed Hindu temple area in the northeastern Indian state of West Bengal, which borders Bihar.

It was confirmed that at least 7 guests were injured and several others hurt in the blaze.

Most of the dead and injured guests were also reported to be pilgrims who had visited the temples to observe Shravan.

Stampedes have frequently occurred during major religious festivals in India.

In July of last year, 6 pilgrims were killed in a stampede at a famous Hindu temple in the northern state of Uttarakhand during the Shravan period, and in November, 9 people died in a stampede at a Hindu temple in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh.

In January of last year, at least 30 people died as worshippers rushed into river waters during the "Kumbh Mela" Hindu festival held in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
