A woman in her 60s who was buried in a landslide caused by torrential downpours in the southern region of South Gyeongsang Province has been rescued by the Korea Coast Guard and fire authorities.
The Tongyeong Coast Guard stated that at around 5:03 AM today (August 17), a report was received that a landslide had occurred on Gonrido Island, Sanyang-eup, Tongyeong, trapping a woman in her 60s, designated as A.
Upon responding to a report from a nearby resident, the Coast Guard confirmed that person A was trapped in the restroom of her home with her lower body buried under mud and debris.
The Coast Guard rescued person A after conducting rescue operations for about an hour and a half.
Person A showed symptoms such as suspected fractures in both legs and hypothermia, but it was reported that her life was not in danger.
An official from the Tongyeong Coast Guard urged, "Residents should avoid approaching landslide-prone areas or steep slopes, and if any signs of danger are detected, immediately report them to relevant authorities and evacuate to a safe place."
