At around 4:40 a.m. today (the 17th), a landslide occurred near an apartment complex in Okpo-dong, Geoje, Gyeongsangnam-do, engulfing the first floor of the building.
Dispatched police and fire rescue personnel rescued two residents from the buried first floor and subsequently recovered an additional resident in cardiac arrest, transporting them to a hospital.
The resident found in cardiac arrest was later pronounced dead.
Geoje has experienced torrential rainfall exceeding 800 mm over the three-day Liberation Day holiday weekend.
In particular, extreme downpours exceeding 400 mm pounded the area between the night of the 16th and the early morning of the 17th, causing damages in various locations.
