An earthquake of magnitude 6.9 struck 7 kilometers north-northwest of Pematangsiantar, Indonesia, at 7:54:52 PM (KST) on August 15, the Korea Meteorological Administration reported, citing foreign monitoring agencies.

The epicenter is located at 3.02 degrees north latitude and 99.04 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 183 kilometers.
