It has been a long time since we last heard news of rain in the southern regions. Real rain has finally begun to fall in the southern areas suffering from severe drought. However, the problem is that heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is forecasted. Preparations against heavy downpours will be necessary.

As humid air rushed in riding southwesterly winds, showers poured down in various parts of the Seoul metropolitan area and other regions today (the 15th).

In Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, torrential rain poured at a rate of 56mm per hour, and vehicles carefully cut through strong currents to exit the roads.

On the other hand, the Yeongnam region, where relief from the drought is urgent, saw almost no rain even until 6 PM today.

Firefighters had to spend the daytime spraying water on fields while waiting for rain to fall.

Looking at the radar, rain clouds developed over southern waters are currently bringing rain to Jeju, South Jeolla Province, and parts of South Gyeongsang Province.

Water vapor, which is the remnant of Typhoon Dolphin, formed a low-pressure system, and a heavy rain advisory is currently in effect for the mountainous areas of Jeju Island.

The low-pressure system will gradually move northeast, crossing the Korean Peninsula until Monday, which is a substitute public holiday.

It is expected to blow strong southwesterly winds and develop rain clouds between tomorrow dawn and morning, when the low-pressure system approaches closest.

Heavy rain of over 250mm is expected on the southern coast of South Gyeongsang Province, and over 200mm on the southern coast of South Jeolla Province and the mountainous areas of Jeju Island until the day after tomorrow.

Up to 150mm of rain is projected for the drought-stricken inland areas of South Gyeongsang Province, 120mm for North Gyeongsang Province, and 100mm for inland South Jeolla Province.

As the low-pressure system moves northward, 20 to 60mm of rain will fall in the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon Province, and up to 80mm in the Chungcheong region.

As the low-pressure system moves out toward the east coast on Monday morning, the rain will mostly stop starting from the afternoon, but localized showers will continue across various parts of the country as the amount of water vapor increases on the Korean Peninsula.
