Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, attending a People Power Party leadership meeting, has repeatedly voiced his opposition to the government's tax revision plan and real estate measures. While the Democratic Party responded that Seoul must proactively cooperate with the government, concerns are also emerging from within the ruling party itself.

Yesterday (August 14), the day after the government announced its August 13 real estate measures, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon attended the People Power Party's floor strategy meeting.

Regarding the government's tax revision plan, Mayor Oh argued that "it judges citizens as speculators solely based on whether they actually reside in their homes," and criticized it as "violent taxation that even infringes upon the freedom to move residence."

Mayor Oh made his opposition clear once again regarding the lifting of greenbelt restrictions and the use of the Yongsan Children's Garden for housing supply, calling them "unnecessary and unwise decisions."

The People Power Party also launched a relentless offensive, claiming that the government's tax revision plan is a "tax bomb" and the supply measures are a deceptive numbers game.

The Democratic Party hit back, stating that the People Power Party is blocking the processing of housing supply promotion bills, while urging the city of Seoul to proactively cooperate with the government's supply measures.

However, within the Democratic Party, calls for modifications to the tax revision plan continued, primarily led by lawmakers representing the Seoul metropolitan area.

Kim Min-seok, a candidate for party leader, stated, "The abolition of the long-term holding special deduction for single-home non-residents is in effect a tax increase, and there are concerns that it could cause side effects such as forcing tenants out." He added that the party plans to revise and supplement the plan through party-government consultations after the national convention.
