The United States has signaled heavy-duty economic sanctions against Iran for next week.

According to U.S. broadcaster Newsmax on the 14th local time, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent appeared on the channel the previous day and stated that the Trump administration will announce new measures against Iran, which will elevate Iran's economic isolation to an unprecedented level.

Secretary Bessent said, "Stay tuned for additional announcements coming next week. We will apply measures that have never been seen before in history to economically isolate a nation."

Secretary Bessent emphasized, "We have shifted from 'magnificent fury' (military operations) to 'economic fury' (economic sanctions). And at the president's direction, we are turning up the dial once again."

Without specifically mentioning what measures would be taken, he said, "It will be a level of economic isolation that the world has never seen before," adding, "It will be combined with a sustained blockade of the Strait of Hormuz that prevents anything from going in or out of Iranian ports."

The Donald Trump administration has been tightening the financial squeeze by blocking Iran's oil exports and goods imports at sea while freezing Iranian banks, overseas assets, a 'shadow financial network,' and cryptocurrency assets.

Secretary Bessent noted that tens of billions of dollars that could have fallen into Iran's hands have been blocked, repeatedly hinting at a policy to strengthen these measures further.

The U.S. intensification of economic pressure on Iran appears to stem from the assessment that there are limits to continuously conducting airstrikes.

Amid reports that U.S. air defense missile stockpiles have plummeted, recent reports also emerged that crew members of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln stationed off the coast of Iran have hit their limits.
