A man in his 30s who assaulted his ex-girlfriend with a blunt weapon at a motel and fled has been captured by police.

Gyeonggi Bundang Police Station announced today (August 14) that it has booked and is investigating a man in his 30s, identified as A, on charges of attempted murder.

A is suspected of attempting to kill his former girlfriend, B, by repeatedly striking her head and other body parts with a blunt weapon he was carrying at a motel in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, at around 1:40 p.m. on August 12.

Police, dispatched following a report from a witness who heard the victim's screams, tracked A's movements after he fled right after the crime using nearby CCTV footage. While tracking him, they found A collapsed with severe injuries in front of another nearby building and transported him to a hospital.

A has been receiving treatment in the intensive care unit until today due to injuries including a femur fracture.

Given that A prepared the blunt weapon in advance, police believe there was an intent to commit murder and have applied the charge of attempted murder. Once A recovers, police plan to secure his custody and investigate the exact circumstances and motive behind the crime.
