A peaceful senior center was instantly turned into chaos.

At around 11:40 a.m. today (August 14), an 80-year-old man, identified as A, swung a weapon at neighboring residents at a senior center in Punggok-myeon, Cheongdo-gun.

The incident left an 80-year-old resident, B, seriously injured from stab wounds, while a 60-year-old village head, C, who tried to break up the fight, sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.

Fortunately, both individuals are reportedly not in life-threatening conditions.

[Village Resident: We are out of our minds right now. We were extremely shocked. He was hurt badly. Whether a person can survive or not....]

At the time of the incident, residents had gathered at the center to share lunch for Malbok.

During the meal, A and B reportedly got into a verbal altercation over the management of village-owned farmland, leading A to pull out a weapon and attack, during which the village head who tried to intervene was also injured.

[Village Resident: The older people say, "Let's sell (the land), spend the money, and die," while the younger people say, "Let's keep it and use the funds for annual events once a year." They were talking about things like that....]

Residents recalled that A had brought the weapon with him in advance.

[Village Resident: He said, "It's noisy," and pulled a knife out of his pocket.... They say he brought it with him.]

Police dispatched after receiving a report arrested A at the scene on the spot, booked him on charges of attempted murder, and plan to apply for an arrest warrant.
