Cheong Wa Dae stated, "We believe that a four-year, two-term presidency with strengthened parliamentary powers has the highest level of public acceptance."

A Cheong Wa Dae official said on the 14th, "We share the consensus on the problems associated with the imperial presidential system," and made the remarks as above.

The official also noted, "Since constitutional amendment requires the consent of at least 200 members of the National Assembly, it is desirable for the parliament to discuss and pursue it."

This came in response to recent mentions, mainly from opposition circles, that President Lee Jae-myung had agreed to a proposal for a constitutional amendment introducing a "decentralized presidential system," prompting Cheong Wa Dae to clarify its principled stance.

The Cheong Wa Dae official emphasized, "This is about supplementing the limitations of the imperial presidency through a consecutive-term presidential system, so it is not a cabinet system," adding, "It does not specifically designate a decentralized presidential system or anything of the sort."

At the same time, the official added, "The president's principle is that 'pushing for a consensus on constitutional amendment is necessary,'" and noted, "President Lee Jae-myung has stated this on multiple occasions."
