A man in his 50s has been arrested by police after stopping his car on a road while drunk, hitting a police officer who attempted to conduct a sobriety test, and fleeing the scene.

The Incheon Nonhyeon Police Station announced on the 14th that it has arrested and is investigating a man in his 50s, designated as Mr. A, on charges of driving under the influence and special obstruction of official duties under the Road Traffic Act.

Mr. A is accused of fleeing after striking a police officer and a patrol car that were attempting to conduct a crackdown while he had his vehicle stopped on a road near Nonhyeon Station Intersection in Namdong-gu, Incheon, at around 12:40 AM today while under the influence of alcohol.

At the time, police were dispatched following a report stating that a car was stopped rather than moving, and attempted to perform a breathalyzer test.

According to the investigation, when a police officer in his 50s, designated as Mr. B, knocked on the window, Mr. A backed his car into the rear of the patrol car and then drove away.

During this process, Officer B was struck on the arm by the vehicle's side mirror and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Mr. A drove about 800 meters before being caught red-handed and arrested by the police. His blood alcohol concentration at the time was confirmed to be at the level for license revocation.

A police official stated, "Investigations showed that Mr. A was neither under the influence of drugs nor driving without a license at the time," adding, "We plan to further investigate the specific details."
