The People Power Party visited the construction site of the Changneung New Town in Goyang to meet prospective residents who complained that their loan conditions had become unfavorable. They also claimed that the government is repeating the failed real estate policies of the Moon Jae-in administration.

The Real Estate Normalization Special Committee within the People Power Party, chaired by Representative Jang Dong-hyeon, visited the Changneung New Town construction site in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, yesterday (August 13).

Representative Jang met with prospective residents of the 3rd-phase new town who are protesting that the preferential loan conditions presented during the pre-subscription recruitment in 2022 disappeared just before the main subscription.

Regarding real estate policies such as the August 13 supply measures announced by the government yesterday, the People Power Party dismissed them as a "deceptive loan-encouraging scheme" and a "substance-less measure" that simply regurgitates past policies.

In particular, they pointed out that due to the so-called "loan open run" phenomenon, the target for total household loans was doubled from 1.5% to 3% in just four months, arguing that "the government is taking the lead in loosening loan restrictions and pushing citizens into mountains of debt."

They also criticized it as a "deception," pointing out that while the government claims it will supply an additional 230,000 homes in the Seoul metropolitan area, specific locations have been announced for only 27,000 of them, with just 1,000 homes located in the Yeomchang Park site in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, where demand is actually concentrated.

The New Reform Party also criticized the government's announcement to nearly halve the construction start period for public housing sites to 37 months, demanding that "various approvals and procedures such as land compensation and relocation cannot be achieved just by shouting for a speed battle, so they should come up with concrete execution plans first."
