Criticisms continued to pour in from the Democratic Party today (August 13) against People Power Party Representative Lee Jin-suk for hosting a forum themed on the May 18 Democratization Movement in collaboration with a right-wing organization.

Han Byung-do, acting party leader and floor leader, held a condemnation rally at the National Assembly ahead of the general meeting of lawmakers today, stating, "We will never tolerate the shallow and base attempt to reduce the National Assembly into a venue for disparaging the May 18 Democratization Movement."

The acting leader also emphasized, "Regardless of whether one is progressive or conservative, anyone with a shred of humanity should not disparage or play games with May 18."

Representative Lee Jeong-heon of the Democratic Party, who serves on the Science, Technology, Information, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee, also held a press conference and stressed, "The National Assembly is the last bastion of democracy that protected the constitutional order even in the winter of 2024 in front of the martial law troops' rifles." He added, "The National Assembly is not a rental venue that lends space to forces that distort history."

In particular, Representative Lee emphasized that Representative Lee Jin-suk is a member of the Science, Technology, Information, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee, which oversees responses to false, manipulated information and online historical distortion. He urged the People Power Party to take responsible measures, stating, "For members of the party to remain silent on historical distortion is to condone and join in on it."
