Detailed discussions to determine the location and curriculum of the proposed national medical graduate school, targeting an opening in 2029, are getting fully underway.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced that it held the second meeting of the Preparation Committee for the Establishment of the National Graduate School of Medicine at Seoul T-Tower today (August 13).

Reflecting the results of the first meeting, the preparation committee decided to form specialized subcommittees in four areas: infrastructure, curriculum, operating systems, and mandatory public service.

The specialized committees will consist of external experts and government officials from relevant ministries. Taking into account the progress of the establishment, the preparation committee plans to form and operate the infrastructure and curriculum committees on a priority basis.

The infrastructure committee will discuss the location of the national medical school as well as the establishment of design and construction plans, while the curriculum committee will review preparations for medical education accreditation and public healthcare-focused educational programs.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare plans to determine the location of the national medical school through discussions with the preparation committee and specialized subcommittees, while also seamlessly formulating subordinate statutes detailing operational plans for the institution.

Lee Hyung-hoon, Second Vice Minister of Health and Welfare and chair of the preparation committee, stated, "As detailed discussions in each field begin in earnest through the formation of the specialized committees, we will be able to accelerate our preparation efforts. We will carefully oversee the preparation process step by step to ensure a smooth opening in 2029 and the commencement of the curriculum in 2030."
