A man in his 20s, who wandered around downtown Daejeon carrying a weapon and later confronted police with a chainsaw and a shield inside his home, has been subdued by the police special forces.

The Daejeon Dunsan Police Station is investigating the suspect, identified as A, on charges of carrying a weapon in a public place and obstruction of business.

A is accused of wandering near Munjeong Children's Park in Dunsan-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, holding weapons in both hands at around 10:00 PM yesterday, and subsequently obstructing police duties by confronting officers who tracked him down to his residence.

At the time, citizens who spotted A walking around with a weapon reported the incident to 112.

Police rushed to the scene, but A had already left.

Officers identified A through nearby inquiries and tracked him down, eventually locating him at his residence in Galma-dong.

Living on the fourth floor of a multi-family housing building, A locked his door when police arrived, threw glass bottles and other items out of the window, and engaged in a standoff with police for over an hour.

Notably, A was wearing a homemade plastic stab-proof vest and holding a chainsaw and a shield in both hands, which reportedly made it difficult for police to subdue him even with a Taser.

In response, the Daejeon Provincial Police Agency's SWAT team was deployed.

The special forces descended via rappel ropes from the rooftop of the building, forced entry through a window, and simultaneously breached the front door to subdue A.

Police apprehended A approximately three hours after receiving the initial report.

The weapon A carried at the park was not a chainsaw, and fortunately, A did not directly swing the weapon at anyone, resulting in no casualties.

Police investigations revealed that A was already wanted by the Busan Bukbu Police Station and other agencies on charges of obstruction of business.
