The won-dollar exchange rate remained in the 1,410 won range for the fourth consecutive day today (the 12th) as dollar selling by exporters and demand for low-price dollar buying crossed paths.

In the Seoul foreign exchange market today (the 12th), the closing price for daytime trading of the won against the U.S. dollar at 3:30 p.m. was set at 1,415.7 won, down 0.3 won from the previous day.

After dropping to 1,410.0 won during night trading the previous day, the exchange rate started slightly higher at 1,412.5 won and rose up to 1,418.0 won during trading.

While dollar selling by exporters continues, some demand for low-price dollar buying appears to be flowing in.

The deadlock in negotiations to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and heightened military tensions between the U.S. and Iran are also factors preventing a further decline in the exchange rate.

Foreign investors net purchased approximately 2.8356 trillion won in the KOSPI market today.

The U.S. dollar showed a slight gain amid tensions in the Middle East.

The dollar index, which measures the value of the greenback against six major currencies, rose 0.07% to 99.875.

After falling to 99.403 on the 7th as expectations for a U.S. interest rate hike receded, it has been on a steady upward trend.

The yen-dollar exchange rate rose 0.10% to 159.392 yen.

After dropping to the 155 yen range last week due to interventions by U.S. and Japanese foreign exchange authorities, it has rebounded and stayed in the 159 yen range since the previous day.

The won-yen cross exchange rate stood at 888.09 won per 100 yen, down 1.15 won from the 3:30 p.m. base price of the previous day.
