Both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ closed higher on August 12.

Today, the KOSPI finished up 233.51 points, or 3.68%, at 6,579.04.

This marks the third consecutive trading session of gains.

The index opened 92.97 points, or 1.47%, higher at 6,438.50. Expanding its gains, a buy sidecar—which temporarily suspends program buy orders for five minutes—was triggered around 11:57 a.m.

The KOSDAQ ended up 1.07 points, or 0.12%, at 858.91.

The KOSDAQ also rose for the third straight trading session.

The index started 2.99 points, or 0.35%, lower at 854.85, but turned upward in line with the KOSPI's rally.
