Hyundai Motor Group is accelerating its company-wide AI transformation (AX) by applying artificial intelligence across research and development, manufacturing, maintenance, and customer support.
Hyundai Motor Group announced today (the 12th) that it held the Hyundai Motor Group AX (AI Transformation) Performance Presentation at its Yangjae headquarters in Seoul, revealing its digital transformation (DX) pursued in phases since 2019, its AX achievements based on it, and future plans.
Since 2022, Hyundai Motor Group has introduced Microsoft's cloud-based collaboration platform Microsoft 365, Jira, Dooray, and Confluence to enhance its collaboration and knowledge-sharing systems.
In the data sector, the group established the Global One Data Pipeline to standardize and connect data across the entire value chain, including research and development, production, quality, and sales.
Since last year, Hyundai Motor Group has made its in-house generative AI platform, H Chat Pro, available to all general employees.
The platform allows users to select and utilize external generative AI models such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude. It has surpassed 30,000 users, accounting for approximately 80% of general and research office employees at Hyundai Motor and Kia.
AI is also enhancing work productivity and cost efficiency in the workplace.
Introduced at the Namyang Research Institute late last year, the Crash Safety AI Assistant is an AI-based research and development system that integrates searches for past crash test results, images, and analysis data, while comparing and analyzing similar cases.
Since its introduction, the time required to search for cases and review analysis data has been reduced by about 90%.
In the manufacturing sector, the AI Automated Recognition Service, which uses AI to read vehicle identification numbers (VINs) and real-time match actual vehicles with system registration information, has been applied to about 70 production bases of Hyundai Motor and Kia at home and abroad, cutting annual costs by 5.2 billion won.
The introduction of the cart alignment optimization technology, which uses AI to optimize complex travel routes in the production line parts supply process, reduced unnecessary production downtime by 86%.
The group also established E-Forest Polaris, an ecosystem of manufacturing-optimized AI agents, allowing engineers to directly create and utilize AI agents needed for quality, production, facilities, and logistics.
In the service sector, a large language model (LLM)-based maintenance support AI service was applied to overseas maintenance sites, cutting maintenance response time by 42%.
AI was also applied to customer review responses, reducing the processing time per case from an average of 35 minutes to 5 minutes.
Currently, more than 85% of all customer reviews are handled based on AI, and the group plans to automate all responses starting next month.
Moving forward, Hyundai Motor Group plans to expand innovation into Physical AI, which combines the physical world with AI across vehicles, robotics, manufacturing, and service sites, while also supporting the spread of AX for small and medium-sized enterprises.
