Professor Seo pointed out that as Mt. Fuji is visited by many foreign tourists, those who are unaware of its historical meaning might accept it as a general symbol of Japan.

In particular, he argued that it is problematic because commercialization is taking place, such as using the Rising Sun flag on commemorative wooden sticks sold at the Mt. Fuji hut.

Netizens raised voices of criticism, saying, "It is normal thinking not to use it if neighboring countries that were invaded feel uncomfortable," and "Germany, a defeated country, makes even the possession of the Nazi flag illegal, but they seem to have neither reflection nor shame."
