Last year, unclaimed lottery winnings amounted to a staggering 58.1 billion won.

The vast majority of this unclaimed money consisted of 50,000 won prizes for 4th place and 5,000 won prizes for 5th place.

Up until now, it was impossible to verify the identity of purchasers for physical lottery tickets bought at retail stores, meaning funds were reverted to the lottery fund if winners did not claim them in person within one year.

Moving forward, lottery players will be able to receive their winnings automatically by registering their lottery tickets in an app.

Starting from the 18th, if you register purchased lottery tickets in the My Lottery Wallet menu of the simple payment app Payco, you will not only receive win/loss notifications, but your winnings will also be automatically deposited according to the deadline.

Amounts of 2 million won or less will be paid as Payco points, while amounts exceeding 2 million won will be deposited into a registered account following identity verification.

However, even when electronically registered, payouts via physical tickets take priority, so users must take care not to lose or have their physical lottery tickets stolen.
