A man in his 60s has been arrested by police after opening the door of a taxi waiting at a traffic light and biting the driver.

The Seoul Jungnang Police Station announced today that they arrested a man in his 60s, referred to as A, at the scene on charges of assaulting a driver under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes at around 2:40 PM yesterday (August 10).

A is accused of opening the front passenger door of a taxi that had stopped at a traffic light on a residential road in Mangwoo-dong, Jungnang-gu, Seoul, entering the vehicle, and biting the arm and chest of the 70s male driver.

It was reported that A had previously been diagnosed with schizophrenia and depression, and stated that he heard auditory hallucinations at the time of the crime.

Police, who were dispatched following reports from witnesses including nearby residents, apprehended A and subsequently took steps for emergency hospitalization.
