A fire broke out at a warehouse in Cheongbuk-eup, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, at around 12:03 AM today (August 11), prompting firefighting authorities to issue a Level 2 response.

The site of the fire is a one-story warehouse storing Class 4 hazardous materials, which are flammable liquids. It is estimated to house approximately 1.91 million liters of about 100 different types of chemical substances.

Firefighting authorities have deployed 56 pieces of equipment and 140 personnel to extinguish the fire.

No casualties have been confirmed so far.

As concerns grew that the fire would spread, firefighting authorities issued a Level 1 response at 1:32 AM, mobilizing personnel and equipment from the jurisdiction's fire station, and elevated it to a Level 2 response at 2:40 AM, mobilizing personnel from neighboring fire stations as well.

At around 3:06 AM, the city of Pyeongtaek sent out an emergency text message advising nearby residents to close their windows, refrain from going outside, and take detour routes around the fire scene.

Firefighting authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire once the flames are brought under control.
