As the heat subsided and heatwave advisories were downgraded, the number of heat-related illness patients in Seoul decreased, falling to a single digit for the first time in 8 days.

According to statistics from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency today (August 10), 5 heat-related illness patients were reported in Seoul the previous day.

This marks the first time the daily count has dropped to a single digit in 8 days, following August 1 when 8 heat-related illness patients were reported.

The number of heat-related illness patients in Seoul has been on a downward trend after peaking at 53 on the 5th of this month.

The cumulative number of heat-related illness patients in Seoul, tracked since May 15 of this year, has increased to a total of 435, including 4 deaths (presumed deaths).

In Seoul, a severe heatwave alert was issued across the entire city on the 4th of this month as the heat reached its peak, before being lowered by one step to a heatwave warning on the 7th.

On the 9th, the alert was lowered by another step to a heatwave advisory, which remains in effect.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government and autonomous districts are operating a heatwave response team consisting of a total of 527 officials across 99 divisions.

While maintaining the heatwave crisis alert level at "Caution," support and protection activities are being provided to a total of 64,062 vulnerable citizens, including 40,177 elderly people living alone, 17,119 outdoor workers, 4,359 people with disabilities and chronic illnesses, 2,006 homeless individuals, and 401 residents in gosiwon/jjokbang (rooftop/minichan) neighborhoods.

In addition, a total of 9,849 facilities are currently in operation, including Climate Companion shelters, heatwave shelters, emergency evacuation shelters, mobile worker shelters, and heatwave reduction facilities.
