While the extreme heat has retreated slightly, sweltering weather continues, mainly centered around the western regions.

Looking at the satellite imagery around the Korean Peninsula, two typhoons can be seen on either side: Chan-hom is moving westward toward Japan, and Dolphin has made landfalling in China.

Sandwiched between the two typhoons, the peninsula will be under the influence of high pressure, bringing easterly winds for the time being. As a result, the eastern regions will remain relatively cool, while hot weather persists primarily in the western areas.

Because the weather across the country will be polarized between the east and the west for a while, most heat wave warnings in the eastern regions have been lifted, but heat advisories remain in effect for western areas, including the capital area.

Tomorrow (August 11), daytime temperatures in Seoul and Gwangju are expected to rise to 34°C (93°F). On the other hand, the east coast regions will stay below 30°C (86°F), offering relatively relief from the heat.

Starting from the weekend, cold and dry northeasterly winds will blow in, easing tropical nights in central regions such as Seoul.

However, tomorrow afternoon will still feel as hot as today, with temperatures in Seoul climbing to 34°C (93°F) and Daegu to 31°C (88°F).

Meanwhile, Typhoon Chan-hom, mentioned earlier, is expected to make landfall in Tokyo, Japan, tomorrow before dissipating.

However, a low-pressure system left behind by the typhoon will partially advance into the East Sea, bringing rain to the east coast regions starting Wednesday, accompanied by very rough waves.

Caution is advised regarding safety accidents along the coast during the vacation season.
