A driver in his 40s has been apprehended by police after hitting a motorcycle and fleeing for about 40 kilometers.

The Gyeonggi Suwon Gwonseon Police Station announced today (August 10) that it has booked a man in his 40s, surnamed A, on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes (hit-and-run resulting in injury) and reckless driving.

A is suspected of driving approximately 40 kilometers all the way to Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, while violating traffic signals and crossing the centerline. He ignored police orders to pull over while being tracked following a report suspecting drunk driving on a road in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, at around 7:45 PM yesterday.

A was caught by police around 10:00 PM when his vehicle came to a halt after running out of fuel.

Police investigations revealed that A had fled after striking a motorcycle stopped at a red light on a road near Gwonseon Middle School in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, earlier at around 8:10 PM.

According to police findings, A was not under the influence of alcohol, but he was driving without having taken medication that he usually prescribes or takes regularly.

Police have taken custody of A and are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
