Prosecutor Kang Baek-shin (Judicial Research and Training Institute Class 34) of the Daegu High Prosecutors' Office, who led the second-phase investigation team for the Daejang-dong development corruption scandal, has expressed his intention to resign, according to SBS reporting.

Prosecutor Kang reportedly submitted his resignation to the Daegu High Prosecutors' Office on the morning of Monday, August 10.

Prosecutor Kang is recognized within the prosecution as a representative investigator specializing in special investigations.

In particular, while working as the head of the Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 3 in 2023 under then-Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Chief Song Kyung-ho, he investigated allegations of Daejang-dong development corruption alongside Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 1 Head Uhm Hee-jun, during which time he indicted then-Democratic Party leader President Lee Jae-myung.

When the prosecution ultimately decided not to appeal the first-trial ruling in the Daejang-dong case last November, Prosecutor Kang voiced his opposition on the prosecution's internal network, stating, "Seeking a judgment from a higher court on grounds of misunderstanding of legal principles and factual errors regarding the parts that resulted in partial acquittals is indispensable."
