Swimmer Park Hee-kyung (Anyang City Hall) has set a new South Korean record in the women's 400-meter freestyle.

Competing in the women's 400m freestyle final at the 45th President's Cup National Swimming Competition held at the Jeonju Wansan Swimming Pool, Park won the race with a new national record time of 4:09.65.

She shaved 0.04 seconds off the previous national record of 4:09.69, which had been set by Han Da-kyung (North Jeolla Sports Council) 10 months earlier in October of last year at the 106th National Sports Festival.

Park, who has consistently shown top-tier performances in the women's 400m freestyle, once again proved her competitiveness in middle- and long-distance freestyle events by breaking the national record.

Through the Korea Swimming Federation, Park shared, "I have been preparing for this competition with it as my main target since the National Sports Festival last year. Although it was disappointing that things didn't go as well as expected in the first half of this year, I trained with even more focus by addressing my shortcomings."

She added, "I will not be satisfied with this record and will continue to train steadily to do my best to break the national record again at the next competition."
