A fire broke out last night (August 9) at a building in the Jeonju Agricultural and Fishery Products Market in Jeonbuk State. Fire Response Level 2 was briefly issued, but no injuries were reported.

Crimson flames engulf the building as thick smoke billows into the sky.

The fire broke out at around 11:15 PM last night at the agricultural and fishery products market in Deokjin-gu, Jeonju, Jeonbuk State, prompting authorities to briefly issue Fire Response Level 2.

Fire authorities brought the major flames under control in about 1 hour and 50 minutes, and completely extinguished the fire at around 3:30 AM, roughly 4 hours after it started.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.

A fire official stated, "Out of the 40 stores in the market building where the fire occurred, 27 are currently in operation," adding, "We have made contact with all 16 individuals connected to the operating stores."

As the market is adjacent to residential areas such as apartment complexes, the Jeonju city government temporarily sent out emergency text messages advising nearby residents to exercise caution regarding their safety.

Fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the scale of the damage by questioning merchants and witnesses.

At around 4:05 PM yesterday, another fire broke out along a street in Gwangjang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul.

A delivery worker who spotted the fire fetched a fire extinguisher from a nearby shop to help suppress it initially. Firefighting personnel soon arrived, and the fire was put out within 5 minutes.

Authorities believe the fire was caused by a discarded cigarette butt igniting paper boxes left on the street.
