SK Hynix is considering selling its stake in its semiconductor packaging (backend process) plant in Chongqing, China, Bloomberg reported on the 7th local time.
According to sources, SK Hynix is discussing various options regarding the Chongqing plant with advisors.
If a stake sale is finalized, its value could reach about $3 billion, equivalent to roughly 4 trillion won, Bloomberg reported.
Potential buyers being mentioned include Chinese funds and local semiconductor companies, and SK Hynix may retain a minority stake.
However, the sources added that the discussions are still in the early stages and may not lead to an actual transaction.
Bloomberg noted that SK Hynix declined to comment on the matter.
The SK Hynix Chongqing plant, which began mass production in July 2014, serves as a backend production base in China responsible for NAND flash packaging and testing.
