Amid continuing record-breaking heatwaves, Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Young-hoon conducted a surprise inspection at Gimpo International Airport on the afternoon of the 8th.

This inspection followed the enhancement of safety management for outdoor workplaces in accordance with the activation of Level 2 of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for heatwaves on the 2nd.

The inspection revealed that while cold water and cooling gear were provided and some air-conditioned rest facilities were in operation, rest facilities were insufficient for workers to access promptly due to scattered work zones.

It was also found that some rest facilities were located far from work areas or had small capacities, making it difficult for workers to rest adequately during peak times when flights arrive and depart intensively.

Immediately following the inspection, Minister Kim instructed relevant organizations, including the Korea Airports Corporation, to rapidly expand shared rest facilities.
