Amid relentless heatwaves continuing day after day, driver's license exams will be temporarily scaled back or suspended starting next week.

The Korea Road Traffic Authority announced that as heatwave warnings and severe heatwave alerts continue, practical driving tests will be operated on a reduced scale or suspended based on on-site assessments if there is a possibility of heat-related illnesses occurring.

This measure was prepared to prevent heat-related illnesses among test applicants and on-site staff.

To minimize inconvenience for applicants, the authority plans to concentrate practical tests during morning hours when temperatures are relatively low, adjust the number of test sessions when the apparent temperature rises to 35°C or higher, and suspend tests if it reaches 38°C.

Each driver's license examination office is also implementing measures to prevent heat-related illnesses, such as installing portable outdoor air conditioners and shading canopies, and providing parasols.
