Yesterday, August 7, the temperature at the official observation station in Seoul soared to 38°C (100°F), marking the hottest day of this summer.

Although the extreme heat will subside this weekend, heatwaves and tropical nights will continue. Today's daytime high in Seoul will be 35°C (95°F), about 3 degrees lower than yesterday, while Sokcho, where rain is falling, will see temperatures drop sharply to around 26°C (79°F).

Heavy rain warnings are currently in effect for the northern east coast of Gangwon Province.

These areas will experience concentrated heavy downpours with hourly precipitation of up to 50mm until this morning, with a total of over 150mm expected through the day after tomorrow. In addition, more than 120mm of rain is expected in the northern east coast of North Gyeongsang Province, while Jeju will see between 5 and up to 70mm of rain.

Also, from this afternoon into tonight, brief and strong shower spells may pass through inland regions.

Nighttime heat remains severe.

The current temperature in Seoul stands at 29.6°C (85°F), and daytime temperatures will rise to around 35°C (95°F), centered mainly around inland areas.

Strong winds will blow across the country until tomorrow, and strong wind advisories are currently in effect for Jeju.
