The European Union (EU) has added five individuals linked to Russia's military-industrial complex to its sanctions list.

Local time on the 7th, Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, announced on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that sanctions had been imposed on five Russian individuals associated with the military-industrial complex in response to Russia's recent airstrikes against Ukraine.

However, the names of the newly listed individuals and specific details of the sanctions were not disclosed.

High Representative Kallas stated, "Every new attack by Russia on Ukraine gives Europe another reason to ratchet up pressure on Russia," criticizing that the Russian military is stepping up terror campaigns targeting civilians as its advance on the battlefield stalls.

Russia has recently mobilized ballistic missiles and drones to launch massive attacks on major Ukrainian cities, including the capital Kyiv, resulting in a continuous toll of civilian casualties in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the additional sanctions implemented by the EU on this day come just over two weeks after EU member states adopted their 21st sanctions package against Russia since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.

On July 23 of last month, the EU approved the 21st package of sanctions against Russia, focusing intensively on the financial, energy, and cryptocurrency sectors, placing 48 individuals and 170 entities and companies on the sanctions list.

This is considered the largest-scale sanctions package since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
