A teenage girl hiking with her family in the Dolomites, part of the Alps in northeastern Italy, has fallen to her death, German news agency dpa reported on the 7th local time.

According to the Italian mountain rescue service, the girl lost her balance while walking through a rocky area 2,500 meters above sea level in the Latemar mountain range the previous day and fell about 90 meters.

It was reported that the girl and her family, who are from the Czech Republic, were visiting the Dolomites for a vacation.

The Dolomites, part of the northeastern Italian Alps featuring a combination of sharp, majestic peaks, cliffs, meadows, and lakes, were designated a UNESCO World Heritage natural site in 2009.
