While the leadership of the ruling People Power Party stated that they have gathered opinions calling for strict measures by the Ethics Committee regarding pro-Han Dong-hoon lawmakers Seo Beom-su and Jin Jong-oh, who recently sparked controversy with their roundhouse kick remarks, the victim of the Busan roundhouse kick case who accepted their apology has protested the heavy disciplinary decision.

Lawmaker Jin shared a handwritten letter given to him by the victim, Kim Jin-ju, via social media yesterday (August 6), stating, "I visited victim Kim Jin-ju in person and offered my apologies."

Beginning the letter with "To Lawmaker Jin Jong-oh," Kim wrote, "They are not going to perform a roundhouse kick on me, and I am truly fine," adding, "Punishing them without asking me under the pretext of supporting the victim is another situation where I am marginalized."

She also pointed out, "I am taken aback that people who were not present at the debate are fighting on my behalf," and added, "If you truly want to help me, refraining from mentioning the debate would be more helpful."

To Lawmaker Jin, she wrote, "I will support you until the end," and "Please make sure to go to heaven."

Despite this request from Kim, opinions are being raised that disciplinary action is necessary regardless of the victim's forgiveness.

Floor Leader Jung Jeom-sik stated via social media yesterday, "We must not distort the broad-minded request shown by the victim and understand it as 'the issue is resolved because the victim has forgiven them.'"

Previously, on August 4, before a debate opposing the abolition of prosecutors' supplementary investigation powers hosted by independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon, Lawmaker Seo said to Lawmaker Jin, "Lawmaker Jin Jong-oh, let's do a roundhouse kick once."

Lawmaker Jin, a former Olympic gold medalist in shooting, chimed in, "I am better with my hands than my feet."

Victim Kim was directly attending the event at the time.

As the remarks sparked controversy, the two lawmakers posted apologies that evening.

The People Power Party's Central Ethics Committee initiated disciplinary procedures against the two lawmakers today.
