A student opened fire at a school in Nonthaburi Province, on the northwestern outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand, on August 7 (local time), leaving at least 7 people dead.

According to Thai police, a student went on a shooting rampage at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Nonthaburi Province before taking their own life.

A police spokesperson told Reuters that the incident left at least 7 people dead, including the suspect, teachers, and students, with 15 others injured.

The suspect, reportedly an 8th-grade student, opened fire, barricaded themselves on the third floor of a school building, and held out before taking their own life as police arrived at the scene.

An 18-year-old student told Reuters that they initially thought it was the sound of firecrackers or someone banging on an object, saying, "I heard multiple gunshots going 'bang, bang, bang,' and after a brief silence, the sounds started again."

Police and rescue teams rushed to the school following the report, evacuated students, teachers, and staff, secured the area, and are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
