Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economy Koo Yun-cheol visited the Changsin-dong slum area in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the 7th to inspect the living conditions of residents and encourage field officials, the Ministry of Finance and Economy announced.
Deputy Prime Minister Koo visited the On-gi Warehouse Branch 4—which provides daily necessities and cooling supplies to slum residents—to hear about its usage status and inspected the operation of the slum's shared air conditioners and cooling fog systems.
He then visited an elderly person living alone nearby to check on their health status, the use of cooling facilities, and any inconveniences in daily life, while asking them to utilize shared air conditioners and heatwave shelters when the heat is severe, such as when a heatwave warning is issued.
At the slum counseling center, he inspected facilities including the heatwave shelter and bathrooms.
Deputy Prime Minister Koo stated, "While summer is hot for everyone, it is even harsher for vulnerable groups such as slum residents," adding, "The government will maintain its attention and support so that vulnerable groups can safely get through the intense heat period."
