Yesterday, August 6, Yongsan in Seoul experienced extreme heat nearing 40°C (104°F).

The heat will not relent today, which marks Ipchu, the beginning of autumn.

The daytime high in Seoul is forecast to reach 39°C (102°F), while Yeoju and Jeonju will also soar to a staggering 39°C (102°F).

However, starting this weekend, the high-pressure system positioned over the upper layers of the Korean Peninsula will shift slightly to the northwest, somewhat easing the disaster-level heat.

Influenced by easterly winds over the weekend, heavy and intense rain is expected in the East Coast regions.
