Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan are set to sign a joint defense agreement, Reuters reported on the 7th local time.

According to sources, the three countries are scheduled to sign the joint defense pact in Saudi Arabia today.

In connection with this, AFP cited a Saudi source reporting that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will hold a summit in Jeddah today.

Regional security anxieties heightened following the Iran war are cited as the backdrop for the three nations entering into the joint defense agreement.

A source speaking on condition of anonymity said, "The joint defense agreement has been discussed for a long time, but its signing was accelerated due to recent changes in the Middle East situation."

Saudi Arabia and Pakistan already signed a mutual defense agreement last year.
