A group that plotted a terrorist attack targeting former Democratic Party of Korea leader Jeong Chung-rae on social media ahead of the June 3 local elections has been handed over to prosecutors.
Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station announced on the 6th that it forwarded two suspects who plotted terror against former leader Jeong to the prosecution without detention on July 10 on charges of intimidation.
Police did not disclose specific details of the investigation, such as the suspects' gender and age.
The suspects are accused of plotting terror by posting messages on social media in May ahead of the 9th Simultaneous Local Elections, such as "Let's kill Jeong Chung-rae" and "Recruiting a Jeong Chung-rae assassination squad."
In response, the Democratic Party of Korea requested a police investigation on May 16 and asked for police protection for former leader Jeong.
