With relentless heatwaves continuing day after day, many of us wish we could just crawl right into a refrigerator.

Word has recently spread that a refrigerator designed for humans was actually released in Japan.

And reports say it is selling like hotcakes.

This is the so-called human refrigerator that has been on sale in Japan since April.

The interior is normally maintained at 15°C (59°F), but once a person sits inside, a blast of 5°C (41°F) cool air is sprayed to instantly cool down those exhausted by the heat.

It was built primarily for use in places where air conditioning is difficult to operate and the risk of heatstroke is high, such as outdoor construction sites, concert venues, and farming villages.

Priced at 1.5 million yen, which is roughly 13.5 million won, it is somewhat expensive, but 200 units have already been sold.

As extreme heatwaves become increasingly frequent, the manufacturer expects demand for the product to grow, particularly around crowded areas like summer festival sites.
