The Houthi movement in Yemen, which declared an end to an uneasy truce, launched a missile attack on government forces, leaving at least 30 soldiers dead.

According to Yemeni military officials speaking on the condition of anonymity, the Houthi rebels carried out missile strikes on Yemeni government military bases in Marib and Hadramawt provinces on the 6th, local time.

The officials stated that the attack has killed at least 30 government soldiers and injured 50 others so far.

The scale of casualties from this attack is the largest since a truce took effect in April 2022, which had halted major combat operations between the Iran-backed Houthi rebels and the Saudi-led coalition supporting the Yemeni government.

According to one official, the casualties were heavy because the missile strike was carried out while government troops were conducting their morning roll call.

The Houthis did not directly mention the attack, but they announced that they would soon release a statement regarding a significant military operation.

Yemen plunged into civil war in 2014 when the Houthi rebels seized the capital, Sanaa, and forced the internationally recognized Yemeni government into exile in Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi-led coalition intervened a few months later, fighting the rebels since 2015 to help restore the Yemeni government's rule.

However, the civil war has settled into a stalemate proxy conflict with neither side gaining the upper hand.

Last month, the Houthi rebels blamed Saudi Arabia for an airstrike on the Sanaa airport under their control, declared an end to the truce and a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia, and have been attacking Saudi vessels in the Red Sea.
