The National Security Office (NSO) of Cheong Wa Dae has convened an emergency security inspection meeting regarding North Korea's short-range ballistic missile launch.

The NSO announced that it held the meeting today (the 6th), attended by relevant agencies including the Ministry of National Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The NSO explained that during the meeting, it ordered the maintenance of an immediate readiness posture, while analyzing and evaluating the impact of this launch on national security and reviewing necessary measures.

"North Korea's ballistic missile launch is an act of provocation that violates United Nations Security Council resolutions," the NSO said, urging an immediate halt to such provocations.

Earlier, the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that it detected short-range ballistic missiles fired from the Wonsan area in North Korea toward the East Sea at around 5 p.m. today.

This marks North Korea's 10th ballistic missile launch of the year and comes 42 days after its previous launch in June.

The latest launch took place ahead of the South Korea-U.S. joint military exercise, Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS), which is expected to be held in August.
