Amid intense heatwaves these days, a woman abandoned her dog by tying it up at a playground. She is now under police investigation.

The Cheongju Sangdang Police Station announced that it has booked a woman in her 30s, surnamed A, without detention on charges of abandoning a pet.

Woman A is suspected of abandoning the dog she raised at a park playground in Cheongju on August 1.

She tied the dog to a playground pillar and left a note that read, "Looking for a new owner" and "Being abandoned."

On that day, the peak daytime temperature in Cheongju reached 36°C (97°F), with a heatwave warning in effect.

The dog was moved to a nearby animal protection center after a citizen who spotted it posted a plea for rescue on social media.

Reports indicate the dog's health is in good condition with no major issues.

When police were dispatched, Woman A suddenly appeared at the scene and identified herself as the owner.

Police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
