As Iran and Oman continue negotiations to secure safe navigation routes for commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, the two countries have agreed on the geographical coordinates for the routes, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on the 5th (local time).

According to Iran's state-run IRNA news agency, Baghaei stated, "As two coastal nations bordering the Strait of Hormuz, Iran and Oman have been holding negotiations over the past two months with the goal of establishing safe navigation routes for commercial vessels." He added, "Relevant Iranian authorities have thoroughly examined various aspects of this matter, including technical, legal, security, and environmental dimensions."

Baghaei continued, "An agreement has been reached on the geographical coordinates of the proposed routes," explaining that "a joint statement between the two countries containing the main considerations and points of agreement is currently under review and in the final stages of completion."

He noted, "Factors that destabilize the strait still exist, including the U.S. naval blockade and aggressive and threatening actions targeting Iran and Iranian interests."

At the same time, he drew a line by saying, "Therefore, the agreement between Iran and Oman alone cannot completely guarantee the safety of navigating vessels."

Baghaei further stated that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi or Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, a former chief negotiator, has no plans to make a surprise visit to Pakistan or Qatar this weekend.

Pakistan and Qatar have served as mediators between Iran and the United States.

However, he added, "Pakistan and Qatar are continuing their efforts to ease regional tensions, and Iran is in continuous contact with these countries to exchange views."
