With severe heat wave warnings in effect for parts of the western region, including the greater Seoul area, extreme heat soaring to around 39 degrees Celsius shows no signs of easing even at this hour. The severe heat wave warnings are expanding day by day.

Extreme scorching heat is continuing, making people sweat just by standing still.

As severe heat wave warnings remain in effect for the greater Seoul area and Gwangyang in South Jeolla Province, Nowon-gu in Seoul soared to 39.2°C (103°F) today (the 5th), making it the hottest spot in Seoul, while daytime temperatures in Gwangyang rose close to 38°C (100°F).

The reason for this extreme heat wave is that easterly winds crossed mountain ranges, and the heated air significantly drove up temperatures in the western regions.

The heat wave in Seoul is expected to peak through the day after tomorrow.

Showers are expected to pass through the western regions until this evening, and rain will continue in Jeju until tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the 13th typhoon is expected to head toward the seas southeast of China early next week. Since the typhoon's path remains fluid, we will need to monitor the situation closely going forward.

Tomorrow morning's lowest temperature in Seoul will be 27°C (81°F), meaning the tropical night heat will be just as severe as today, and tomorrow's daytime temperature in Seoul is expected to reach 39°C (102°F), about 2 degrees higher than today.
