As ocean temperatures rise due to a heatwave, fish farms in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, are suffering a wave of damage.

Pohang City announced today (the 5th) that about 55,000 barred knifejaws have died across 12 local fish farms.

The damage is estimated at approximately 35 million won.

Yesterday, about 13,000 barred knifejaws and flounders died at 8 fish farms in the Pohang area.

As a result, a total of approximately 69,000 flounders and barred knifejaws have died across 20 fish farms in Pohang due to high water temperatures so far.

The total amount of damage is estimated at around 43 million won.

A high water temperature advisory has been in effect along the East Coast from Gyeongju to Samcheok in Gangwon Province since the 3rd.

With fish deaths continuing due to high water temperatures, fish farmers are on high alert for management.

Coastal cities and counties, including Pohang City and Gyeongju City, are notifying fish farmers of water temperature information and precautions, while guiding them on management according to temperature changes.

In addition, they are providing fish farmers with liquid oxygen, circulation pumps, and immune boosters.
