People Power Party Representative Jang Dong-hyeok has claimed that the police search and seizure of Starbucks headquarters is a "repay-the-favor investigation" following reports of the raid.

Representative Jang wrote on his social media today (August 5), "The police have begun a search and seizure of Starbucks headquarters," adding, "Given absolute power by the Lee Jae-myung administration, they have taken it upon themselves to launch a 'repay-the-favor investigation.'"

He went on to point out, "Ultimately, the police have confessed themselves to be the loyal dogs of the administration," and that "they have volunteered to act as the vanguard for this administration's ideological vetting of the public."

He also asked rhetorically, "Is this not precisely the subject of punishment under the 'law-distortion crime' created by this administration?"

Representative Jang claimed, "The Lee Jae-myung administration is stubbornly attempting to strip away even 'the freedom of a cup of coffee,'" warning that "an administration that tries to strip away the freedom of the people will inevitably have its own power stripped away."

The Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has been executing a warrant for search and seizure at the Starbucks Korea headquarters since this morning.

This marks the police's first compulsory investigation regarding allegations that Starbucks insulted persons of merit for the May 5.18 Democratization Movement through its "Tank Day" promotion.
