Egyptian national football team forward Mohamed Salah, 34, who left English club Liverpool, is reportedly on the verge of joining Turkish powerhouse Trabzonspor.

Trabzonspor announced on the 5th (KST) that it had "begun negotiations to sign Salah," adding that Salah is scheduled to arrive in Istanbul, Turkey, at noon local time on the 5th and reach Trabzon later that evening.

The club added that the schedule and other specific details of the welcome program to be held in Trabzon will be released through its official channels.

According to Reuters, immediately following the club's announcement, Trabzonspor President Ertuğrul Doğan said in an interview with local broadcaster A Spor, "While the transfer is not yet fully finalized, Salah will arrive in Istanbul on the 5th to undergo a medical examination before moving to Trabzon to sign the contract."

Although he did not specify the exact timing of the contract signing, he noted that it is likely to take place around the 6th local time.

Local reports indicate that Salah has agreed to a two-year contract.

Salah has been searching for a new team as a free agent after leaving English Premier League side Liverpool following the conclusion of the 2025–2026 season.

He had previously drawn interest from teams in Major League Soccer (MLS) and the Saudi Professional League, and was reportedly close to joining Turkish side Beşiktaş, the team of South Korean national team forward Oh Hyeon-gyu.

During his nine years at Liverpool, Salah made 442 appearances in official matches and scored 257 goals, leading the club to two Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League title, among other honors.

In the 2024–2025 season, he spearheaded Liverpool's Premier League triumph with a stellar performance of 29 goals and 18 assists, becoming the first player in a single season to sweep the league's Player of the Season, Golden Boot, and Playmaker awards.

However, his performance dipped somewhat last season, managing 7 goals and 7 assists in 27 league matches. He was frequently left on the bench during Champions League games, leading to friction with then-manager Arne Slot.
